Zdeněk Fric, Vladimír Hula, Michal Zapletal, Martin Konvička: Ostrinia palustralis interesting species of wetlands and ruderals of west Bohemia

Ostrinia palustralis is a remarkable pyralid moth inhabiting nutrient-rich wetlands with broad-leaved species of Rumex spp., on which its larvae develop. Originally described from the Pannonian region, it underwent a remarkable northward expansion during last few decades, but it was mainly known from warm lowlands of the Czech Republic until present. We report here multiple findings of the species in predominately hilly region of western Bohemia. The first recorded specimens from this region were collected at the Soos swamps in 1979 and 1980 and represent first known, hitherto unpublished records from Bohemia. Besides this locality, we report the species from 11 localities in 8 faunistic grid cells. Association of this moth with eutrophic and rather degraded wetlands illustrates that even such neglected sites should be preserved in the landscape.
